So let&#8217;s start our journey through <\/span><b>Italian opera history<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the language itself and the word <\/span><b>opera<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It is the Italian word \u201c<\/span><b>opera<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d which comes from the Latin &#8220;<\/span><b>opus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;, meaning a work, an activity, but also a work of art, and in the divine sense, creation itself. Therefore it is about <\/span><b>doing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>producing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>achieving<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> something, and finally <\/span><b>creating<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>Italian opera history<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, then, is the story of an artistic creation that begins in &#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Italian opera history: first the language, then the time and place of origin\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2026\u00a0 the 16th century, towards the end of the century. <\/span><b>Italian opera<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> originated almost five hundred years ago\u2014incredible, isn&#8217;t it? Without forgetting the \u201cpastoral drama\u201d of the end of the 15th century, without which it would be very boring! So, <\/span><b>Italian opera history<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> unfolds alongside Italian history and its birthplace is, obviously, Florence. Why \u201cobviously\u201d? It\u2019s simple: the most important and richest families in the country were living in Florence at that time. Around the <\/span><b>Bardi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> family an entirely new type of performance came about, called &#8220;sung acting&#8221;. But the period in which the development of Italian opera flourished the most was between the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to genius artists such as <\/span><b>Gioacchino Rossini<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Giuseppe Verdi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Giacomo Puccini<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These composers collaborated with librettists inspired by the Romanticism movement and Shakespeare but also by French naturalism and the Scapigliatura artistic movement. Some prominent figures include Eug\u00e8ne Scribe, Arrigo Boito, and Antonio Ghislanzoni. <\/span><b>Italian opera history<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> remains Italian but is enriched by important contributions from the rest of Europe.
